Packed full of drama, FourPlay is now playing at Factory Space Theatre. Featuring four different plays which investigates social interaction in a modern age, the audience is left to consider the moral ambiguities and grey lines that come from our obsessions.

The first play is Between Bad Relations by Alex Broun. It focuses on one woman caught between the nice guy at home, and her dream man – the famous musician Bertard.

This is followed by Rain by Susanne Hauser. A personal favourite of the performance, the play sees us thrust into the life of Beatrice – a mistress who awaits the day her lover will leave his wife. The characters were executed brilliantly by all three actors involved, with particular mentions for Lisa Stewart whose monologue about sex, rain and dog poo was hilarious and absolutely perfect.

The third play, Open Letter by Sally Williams was by far the shortest at less than 10 minutes. The play focuses on two people living together and a suitcase which enters and exits the stage. With narration the entire time and a plot that took too long to become sensical, it was unfortunately the least pleasant of the evening.

The final play was Wellness by Ella Arendelle. Having already premiered in Melbourne the play was certainly the most polished. Investigating the life of a larger woman and her interactions with those around her, Ella Arendelle has done a fantastic job of both writing and starring in a play which outrageously discusses topics often considered taboo.

Director Roz Riley has done a fantastic job of combining the four plays into one cohesive performance. From the creative utilisation of the theme of a trial – including sounds of a mallet to signify the beginning of a new play, to the smart use of colour to convey characters, Roz has clearly put significant thought into the production. The use of live music and the audience space kept the show interesting and differentiated it from typical theatre plays. For a unique evening of theatre unlike any other you have experienced, be sure to go see FourPlay while it’s running!
