Isabelle Davis, in partnership with Fresh Works, premieres The Eternally Hopeful, a compelling new song cycle featuring four actors and a piano. The exploration of hope through multiple mini narratives theorises that humans are inherently hopeful, culminating in a 50 minute collection of songs and stories that either expose the hidden optimist in each of us - or truly affirm our pessimism.

We could all use hope right now, could we not? Or is hope naivety setting us up for failure? Davis’ offering is that hope is innate, and in presenting stories with varying degrees of hope she poses a challenge: Was Cicero right, that while there is life, there is hope? Is it okay to feel hopeful when the world is on fire? Is that perhaps why we must?

With strong, dynamic performances and a stunning score, The Eternally Hopeful is sure to provoke thoughtful, reflective conversation on our values, our hopes and our fears.

Inspired by the story of Saint Francis of Assisi, Holy Fool leaps between the divine and the ridiculous, exploring how foolishness can conjure the greatest of all miracles...

Blending physical comedy, spiritual longing, and joyful absurdity, this show follows one naïve seeker determined to live with purpose, love boldly, and question everything — even holiness itself.

A playful pilgrimage through fear, belonging, and the urge to matter in a fractured world. A sacred slapstick journey toward meaning, compassion, and the courage to be unapologetically human.

This project was creatively supported by Emma Gough, David Bridel, Giovanni Fusetti (devising consultant), Zack Fine, James Vinson, Melbourne Actors Guild, La Mama Theatre (Exploration season in 2024), Jaime Dorner, Elizabeth Davie, Paul Bourke, Zya Kane, Anna Thomson and Tim Sneddon.

Johann is launching a poetry book. Johann is a very bad poet.
Prepare to be simultaneously charmed and berated by Tīrau’s resident self proclaimed artist, incompetent anarchist, and lover of grapes.

Born in Limburg; Germany, Johann packed his quill and moved to the small town of Tīrau, (NZ) to free himself of his parental constraints and find himself as an artist. Now he is ready to share his angst with the world.

With a diary full of inspiration (and sheep poo), Johann has arrived in Naarm to launch (or attempt to launch) his first poetry book.

Unfortunately, as he presents his painfully curated manifesto, he will be sidetracked by his hatred of society, his love for Elton John, and his ongoing frustration with capitalism. Will we ever hear the full book? Do we want to?

Join award winning actor and writer Em Barrett as she presents to you her ultimate artistic alter ego. Based in Naarm, Em is an experienced clown, character actor, and performer with a background in theatre and drag. In 2022 she won the Tour Ready Award for her solo comedy Community in NZ Fringe where Johann originally appeared. Since then Johann has broken out into the comedy scene to share his internal angst and terrible poetry with the world. He has appeared at venues such as The Butterfly Club and The Motley Bauhaus, shouting awful poetry and giving unsolicited life advice to comedy audiences as they laugh along, mildly terrified but nevertheless enabling his grandiose mediocrity.

Karisma

A vibrant fusion of four passionate jazz a cappella singers, Karisma brings a sparkling repertoire of jazz and pop classics spanning a century. Founded in 1970 by Peter Paige (formerly of The Graduates), the group was created to showcase his exquisite four-part arrangements on Sydney’s club scene.

With rich, expressive voices and a shared love of harmony, Karisma delivers lush, intricate soundscapes.

NEXUS

Nexus NDV is a high level harmony group for neurodivergent young adults aged 18–35ish. Nexus was created to create a space for skilled and passionate harmony singers to meet and make music without the stringent expectations generally placed upon musical outfits at this level. Individualism is celebrated to foster a judgement-free zone where people are comfortable to be themselves. AND we make great music! The group sings an eclectic mix including jazz, pop, folk, video game music, and originals written by its members.

School is hell and then you die. Alternatively, an Angel crash lands on earth and annunciates you with the second coming of Christ. Either option is fine.

Toeing the line between sin and salvation, school girl Jan is desperate to stand out and make her mark, the 10 commandments be damned. Not far behind is her best friend Dav, trying her best to fly under the radar and desperately dodging a holy retribution she’s convinced awaits her around every corner.

Prayers are answered and dreams are dashed however, when an Angel- sorry not an Angel falls to earth in front of them and annunciates Jan as the next Virgin Mary.

In the midst of this precipitous parable, the not Angel or simply, Being, pieces together their scattered memories, and finds the centuries long story of two celestial co-workers as they attempt to find meaning in the depths of their divine drudgery.

Traversing the planes of human and heavenly existence, Big Religion is a quick-witted, impenitent and spirited exploration of what it can be to endure beneath the weight of the Almighty…or the weight of whatever we are told the Almighty is.

It was a game… wasn’t it?

When a plane crashes and a group of boys find themselves alone on a remote island, they begin, with youthful optimism and a sense of adventure, to build order from the chaos. They make rules, elect leaders, and imagine a world where fairness and cooperation will keep them safe. But order is fragile.



What starts with hope quickly descends into rivalry, loyalty tests and power struggles. Fear creeps in. Imagination becomes threat. And in the absence of oversight and consequence, instincts begin to outweigh ideals.



In this fresh, highly physical staging of Nigel Williams’ adaptation of Lord of the Flies, award-winning director Steven Mitchell Wright (MEDEA: Out of the Mouths of Babes, Ghosts) leads an ensemble of performers through a visceral retelling of William Golding’s literary classic.



Play turns to ritual. Loyalty becomes leverage. Fear redraws the map. In creating their own world, they expose the truths beneath ours: the impulses we carry, the systems we defend, and how little it takes to break them.
