Experience the extraordinary music of Joe Hisaishi in a new concert event celebrating one of the world’s most beloved modern composers, performed live in concert by Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Known for his close association with the films of Studio Ghibli and Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki, Joe Hisaishi has created the stunning musical accompaniment to countless films including Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro and Howl’s Moving Castle.

Art of the Score podcasters Andrew Pogson, Dan Golding and conductor Nicholas Buc will guide you through the musical world of Hisaishi. From his famous film scores to his masterpieces for orchestra, they will unpack, demystify and celebrate the multi-award-winning works and career of the great Japanese Maestro.

Christopher Durang's play centres around three middle-aged siblings living together in their ancestral farmhouse in Pennsylvania and playfully riffs on themes and characters from the works of Anton Chekhov.

Over the course of a weekend, old resentments bubble to the surface, sibling rivalries reignite, and the characters grapple with their identities, their pasts, and their uncertain futures. There are moments of absurd comedy, including a costume party, a Maggie Smith impersonation, and Spike's constant need to show off… everything. However, beneath the laughter lies a deeper exploration of loneliness, ageing, the fear of change, and the search for meaning in life.

Featuring a stellar cast, this play is a witty and insightful look at the complexities of family, the passage of time, and the enduring human need for connection, all filtered through a Chekhovian lens with a distinctly contemporary and comedic sensibility.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won the Tony Award in 2013 for Best Play, with five additional nominations.
This is the South Australian premiere.

An early morning in an inner city club starts to meld into the surreal as its smoking area becomes a stage for ghosts of the past, inter-dimensional drug dealers and good old fashion existential dread.



Follow several partygoers at the end of their night as the come to terms with their relationships, their fears and desires, their place in the world, and why the hell this last 5 minutes before closing has gone on for 5 hours.



What happens to these people as they realise 5 AM doesn’t seem to want to arrive, as strange spectres from Australia’s bloody past stalk the dance floor and beings of divine ability begin to posses the people around them. When the fabric of reality starts to melt away and they briefly glimpse the stage their lives exist on and the audience that watches them.



Will any of them even care at this point?



SMOKE is Hugo Gutteridge's debut venture into playwrighting, much of its content is based on true events, much of the dialogue is verbatim from the mouths of friends and strangers met or overheard on similar nights out. Meant to reflect the feelings of young adults of the city’s night life, to reveal the anxiety, the apathy and confusion, as well as the hope, and the desire for connection and love.



It is a love letter to Melbourne’s club culture and to those hours before dawn when almost anything could happen.

Backlit by the clubs of London’s Soho, Michael Spencer faces the music of his last night on Earth. Diagnosed with HIV in 1984, he's told by doctors that he has just four years to live. Determined, he decides his doomsday will be his biggest party yet. Sweat mixes with tears, and final dances turn into farewells. There’s a midnight countdown to his death but Michael … survives. With the gift of life, how can he go on living?



Cruise is an intergenerational monologue spanning four decades and over 20 characters, celebrating queer nightlife and paying tribute to a generation lost to the AIDS crisis.



The original season of Cruise was staged in 2025 at KXT on Broadway in association with bAKEHOUSE Theatre Co. The remounted production is presented in partnership with the Seymour Centre.

She crossed the water. She knew things they didn't have words for. She made herself useful. Then she was asked to leave.

Na-iba - The Other is a performance development work by Divergent Theatre Collective, drawn from Euripides' Medea and made entirely in the present tense.

A woman arrives. Not as myth. As rupture. The ensemble holds its breath. Small rituals caught mid-air. True. Unhidden. Many mother tongues bracing at once.

An ensemble with roots across the Philippines, India, Malaysia, Chile, and Vietnam & Iran ask where this ancient story of displacement, betrayal, and rage still lives — in the body, in the mother tongue, in the memory of a border crossed. Built through the Tinikling methodology, developed by Artistic Director Roman Berry through his Adhocracy Residency at Vitalstatistix, the work locates story in the body before it reaches language.

This is not a retelling. It is a reckoning.

The audience is not outside the work. They are in the room with it. Followed by an open post-show forum with the ensemble.

Noah Skape's Human Entertainment is a punk rock operetta about an ADHD outsider struggling to comprehend his place in life and society.

Set somewhere in between reality and 90's free-to-air television, it's a cartoonish nightmare sequence about purpose and belonging, told with comedy-adjacent skits and arena-adjacent rock songs.

A one man show that takes the audience on a journey through not only Skape's imagination, but their own imagination as well. Using found-audio samples and original music to create scenes brought to life even further using mime, costume changes, dance, and song.

Four short plays about love, loss, reconciliation and acceptance. Kevin Nemeth has shaped his domestic and everyday material into delicate, profound and gently funny explorations of human nature. Set in regional Victoria, Crapbox is narrated by a recently widowed man who has discovered that his ‘tree change’ home is haunted. The tension between his blunt pragmatism and the need to deal with his situation leads him on a surprising journey.

In Early Morning, a couple wake too early and are beset by anxieties and paradoxes as they lie in bed - hoping that the other one will get up and make the coffee. The Letter is a bright memory-picture sparked by a long-lost letter, and the final text, Good Daughter is a wry look at the muddy terrain of assisted dying.

These works reveal the rubble of life journeys - negotiations with partners, relationships with children and aging parents, physical challenges - and the ricketty but enduring structures that are built from that rubble.

Kevin Nemeth is an award winning scriptwriter with over 30 years experience in the industry. He has been awarded five Australian Writers' Guild Awards and has received another nine nominations. He lives near Castlemaine and draws much material and inspiration from his location.

Performed by veteran actors Anne Browning, Peter Houghton and Tom Gutteridge - directing each other - this team bring their years of experience and collaboration to bear on these world premiere works.

Left the “second-best bed” in his will (rude, William), Anne Hathaway is officially done being a historical footnote. Newly widowed and very much still grieving — Anne is forced to confront her legacy when Shakespeare’s most iconic creations from whimsical fairies to chaotic witches start dropping in uninvited to guide her through the five stages of grief.

As fiction collides with history (and possibly brief time travel), Anne begins to suspect her husband may have poured more emotional energy into iambic pentameter than into their marriage. Rude again.

Will Anne overcome her belittling label in Will’s will, or will she forever be known as his ‘second best lady’?

Second Best Bed is a new original Australian musical, written by Mae McCubbin. Debuting in the Stratford Shakespeare on the River Festival (2026), audiences ‘laughed, cried, and laughed some more!’ (Katie, audience member)

Come along on this fantastical journey of self-reflection, live music and just enough Shakespeare references to make you wish you paid slightly more attention in year ten English.

“…there’s only one skill you need when it comes to killing, and that’s the willingness to do it.”

Erin and Sophia are crime-scene cleaners, but the people they work for are the ones doing the crimes. They’re paid well for disposing of evidence, especially on public holidays, but when one of the bodies they’re supposed to be collecting turns out to be inconveniently alive it threatens to ruin everything. With few options available and even less time, the pair decide to outsource their problem to an enigmatic contractor named Ferryman, a decision they may come to regret. Meanwhile, the spirits of the dead are restless, and they have their own stories to tell.

This world-premiere of a razor-sharp satire will leave you laughing, but also wondering whether you really should.

The sermon on the mount returns to our stages for a victory lap as Jonathan Biggins – co-creator and star of The Wharf Revue and one of Australia’s favourite comic actors – transforms into the visionary, reformer and rabble-rouser, Paul Keating.

Exploring the former PM’s landmark political achievements and personal obsessions, The Gospel According to Paul takes the light on the hill and shines it on a man who grew up in the Labor Party at the knee of Jack Lang, approached economics as an artform, and demanded we confront the wrongs of our past. Who is Josef Švejk ?
The fictional character in the novel. He is cheerful, unshakeable, unpredictable and seemingly simple - yet somehow, he survives (and quietly subverts) a world gone mad around him. He is the ‘everyman’ who reminds us of the resilience of the human spirit. So beloved is Švejk that there are many statues of the character in Europe.

When the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968, Švejk’s spirit was recalled when the ‘Švejkites’, as the resistance fighters were called, fought and won.

Is Švejk’s legacy spreading throughout the world?

What is to švejkovat? To make mockery of the authorities by obeying them completely.

Th’Unguarged Duncan’s production of Timon of Athens was developed as part of Prague Shakespeare Company’s 2025 Shakespeare Summer Intensive program. It is highly physical and ensemble based. This was Karl Marx’s favourite Shakespeare, as it examines the value of money and its effect on human relationships in society. The play was co-authored by Thomas Middleton. Other themes explored within this dark satire include use versus service and giving/embracing in opposition with repulsing/rejecting. In this production, the tumultuous world of a commercial restaurant reflects the world of Timon: it is highly charged, it is precipitous in its potential future, and is one of the hardest hit industries when a society is in economic crisis.



The current US administration, and indeed the global capitalist system, is constantly focused on the creation and sustainability of wealth, often at the expense of the wellbeing of the general public. As the use of money and the dishonesty it seems to promote is a major theme of this play, it seems very relevant in today’s economic climate: particularly in regards to the current “cost of living crisis”. It is easy to draw parallels between our own period of late stage capitalism and the many calamities stemming from it (class/racial/religious prejudice, climate disaster, territorial conflicts) and the world of the play. It also poses the ever pertinent question, as explored in many works of Shakespeare: what constitutes effective leadership?

Timon, exceptionally wealthy and unbridled in their generosity, wines and dines the elite, serves as a patron to the arts and magnanimously funds the state. Convinced of the loving nature of humanity, he gives and keep on giving. Surely if Timon accidentally gave it all away his friends would be there to return the favour? This darkly funny, spin on Shakespeare’s riches to rags anti-capitalist satire will wow audiences with its confronting relevance to our lives today.
