I’d had a day—the kind that leaves you fiercely striding past slow walkers, vexed, personally wronged by them all.

The stunning late-summer sun did nothing to soften the rage. The idyllic garden bar—where I’d been casually enjoying an icy cold lager swiftly gave way to a dark, heavy train platform. The kind where thoughts spiral. Where imagining throwing yourself in front of the next express feels almost logical.

Bad thoughts. Bad day.

Maybe one man, singing one song, over and over again on repeat for an hour, can turn it around?

My immediate thought: absolutely not. I spent an orphan's Christmas in London the day George Michael died—(RIP), so I know a song played on repetition. But an hour?

The same song. Over and over. For an hour.

Who does that? Why? Who buys a ticket? What song could possibly sustain that? Who is insane enough to sit through it?

I take my seat.

Maestro—start the clock!!!

At 4 minutes and 36 seconds in, I am shaking ny head at the absurd enthusiasm radiating from the stage.

By 9 minutes 22 seconds, I realise how absurdly clever Conk (aka Connor Dariol) really is.

A brutally simple concept, executed to perfection. Subtle shifts in body language, tiny glances, precise movement—and complete command of the entire space. I mean the entire space.

I won’t give too much away, but an hour with Conk was all the therapy I needed. Where at first i thought this show would drive me insane, I felt my whole body lift—dragged back from my earlier rage. Watching this silly, wacky, relentless performer push through each increasingly exhausting sequence gave me life.

I am certain that whenever I hear this same song, no matter where I am, I will recall some of these outrageous moments and laugh gleefully.

As unhinged as this show can feel, it’s equally endearing. It’s special in the way something so simple pushed to its limits can completely reset your mood & your mind.

Conk gives all of himself, all of it.

Whistle.
