The blurb put out by this year's Sydney Fringe organisers declared that "If you only see one show this Fringe, make sure this is the one!" This being, the All Star Circus.

For those, like myself, who are not familiar with the group, the All Star Circus showcases a variety of circus disciplines by the award-winning acrobatic entertainment company Head First Acrobats, who hail from Melbourne. Head First has produced several multi-award-winning productions both here and overseas. They also boast winning the 2022 and 2023 Adelaide Fringe Awards for Best Circus.

With such credits, one would expect something very special, if not extraordinary. Having now seen the performance, I can testify to the fact that the acts on show are just that—something special. I attended a performance during the first week of the school holidays here in New South Wales. As such, each all-star act definitely pitched itself towards families, and I'm pretty certain entertained all. It was a mixed audience comprising mums and dads, children of all ages, and the elderly, who I suspect were doting grandparents.

The energy on stage was quite electric. Interspersed between each act was a ringmaster who also performed acrobatic disciplines himself while stirring the mixed-age audience into a frenzy. Cheering and applauding were ongoing, as we were treated to exceptional performances that included high-wire acrobatics, juggling, hoop twirling, gymnastics, and graceful trapeze. The most unusual act of all involved a huge red balloon (no spoilers). As well as all of this, there was a lot of fun to be had as performers interacted with the audience in a humorous way that ultimately drew all in.

The venue itself (a circus tent) was intimate and afforded good views for everyone, both young and old. The performance I attended was almost sold out. Keeping with circus tradition, popcorn was readily on hand and refreshments available.

Overall, time well spent.

As a bonus, it would have been great to see all the performers come together at the end for one final piece as a group. However, the absence of this in no way detracted from an already outstanding performance. The season originally commenced on 30 August, encompassing the Sydney Fringe Festival, and concludes 12 October. It is on at Fool's Paradise—situated within the Entertainment Quarter—The Vault.

All Star Circus is rated G, and as mentioned, suitable for the whole family. Running time is approximately 50 minutes.

This is definitely a school holiday treat. It does not have much longer to run, so be quick!
