& Juliet is a vibrant, high-energy reimagining of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, bursting with colour, wit, and pop anthems that keep the audience engaged from start to finish.
The story unfolds through the perspective of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare’s wife, who dares to rewrite her husband’s tragic ending. Asking, “What if Juliet didn’t die?”, she sets the stage for a tale of self-discovery and empowerment. Juliet, determined to define her own destiny, sets off for Paris with her nurse Angelique, best friend May, and Anne herself — now written into the story as “April.”
The script cleverly balances humour and heart, as Shakespeare and Anne spar over the plot’s direction, their creative rivalry mirroring the themes of love, agency, and reinvention.
Jade Lee delivers a standout performance as Juliet, her powerful vocals and expressive range grounding the show’s emotional core. Annette Vitetta shines as Angelique, bringing warmth and comic precision, while Ben James’ Shakespeare adds charm and levity. The ensemble supports with dynamic choreography and boundless energy, enhancing the show’s contemporary edge.
The pop soundtrack, featuring hits by Max Martin, pulses through the narrative, transforming familiar chart-toppers into moments of character revelation. Vibrant set design and bold costuming complete the spectacle, blending Elizabethan flair with modern pop gloss.
While the show occasionally leans on its exuberance at the expense of subtlety, its inclusive spirit and joyous message make it a truly uplifting experience.
& Juliet is an exuberant celebration of self-expression, love, and second chances — a musical that leaves audiences smiling long after the curtain falls.
