Pomona - an Adelaide premiere play

POMONA

Written by Alistair McDowall
Directed by Thomas Midena
7-16 August 2026
Little Theatre

Ollie is searching for her sister, and all roads lead to Pomona: an abandoned concrete island at the heart of the city. But as others have learned the hard way, getting involved can cost you everything. Perhaps to survive, it’s better to ignore the truth.
Pomona is a dark, intense and curious one-act play about living in the modern world. It unfolds like a puzzle, flirts with the fantastical, and twists like a nightmare.

The play was first performed in London in 2014, and this will be its South Australian premiere.

Feedback/Comments

Julia

Bravo to the cast for giving this play a good crack.
Very dialogue heavy the script was challenging to follow at times.
This did not deter the enthusiasm of the cast and the acting on the whole was first rate.

Mirja

Very entertaining and confusing at same time

Kweef

This was outstanding.... I saw it twice

Scorcha

A little slow hard to follow story line

Matthew

The play was enjoyable with good acting and theme. But the play did feel that it ended arputdly; the overarching story never reached a climax or conclusion.

Kathryn

Fabulous acting but the play left us confused.

In spite of the valiant efforts of the cast with a challenging and often confusing dialogue, after 2 hours this dark and dystopian tale left me scratching my head and wondering “what was that all about again?”
