I'm Only Dating These Men Because My Uncle Bequeathed Me Money and I Need to Get Married By The End of the Year

A NEW MUSICAL BY LUKE COSTABILE AND TRENT CLIFFE

I’m Only Dating These Men Because My Uncle Bequeathed Me Money and I Need to Get Married by the End of the Year is a wild, heartfelt new musical comedy about one man’s race to find true love - or at least a legal spouse - before his eccentric criminal uncle ruins his life. In this two man show, Larry learns he’s inherited $946,000; but only if he’s married to the love of his life within a year. One year to find a partner or his life as he knows it will be undone.

What awaits him in the dating pool?

Aside from Grindr dates, old friends and emotionally unavailable men Larry, scrapes the bottom of the proverbial barrel that is dating. A KPI-obsessed corporate lover, a dandruff-fuelled meltdown and a stingy inter-dimensional being - just a few characters he meets.

Down on his luck he turns to his loveable Aunty Sue who tells him to find love in passions which turns out to be just as bad as his dating game. With gaudy musical numbers, and a journey of radical self-discovery Larry discovers all that really mattered were the friends we made along the way.

What is true love?
How do you know if they are the one?
And what is hiding down in Auntie Sue’s vault?
She’ll never tell.

Get your tickets now or don’t! What do we care? Just as long as you take care out there, Grandma’s been calling. Have you been to visit her? And wear a jumper. God, you’re so grown up.

This show is for everyone who loves goofy comedy and musicals. It also speaks to the queer community, touching on some dating and life situations that are a bit too familiar but pushed to an extreme.

Great actors, very funny.

We laughed a lot - there were lots of great lines. The actors were wonderful. The storyline and songs weren’t so strong

The lack of internal logic was shown by the wild escalation into violence. Cut some of the repetition that doesn't advance the story. Could be hard to hear at times, although the performer playing the various boyfriends had their mic correctly aligned and was able to better show off a singing voice.

Well written and performed original story. Highly entertaining, and the lead actor was wonderfully engaging and totally funny. Lots of laughs. Definitely recommend

An interesting mix of theatre styles but the narrative got lost in the mix. The miking of the actors dulled the delivery and weakened the show. This was not needed in such an intimate performance space.
