Titus Andronicus

Titus Andronicus

Roman General Titus returns from war victorious against the Goths, rejects the political power offered him and sets in motion his own violent demise.

After begging in vain for the life of her eldest son, fed by Titus to the sacrificial flame, Tamora, Queen of the Goths, embarks on an obliterating journey of revenge that will leave few untouched.

Informed by a strong ensemble sense, and an eastern aesthetic, this dynamic story of revenge challenges our instinctive need to redress the wrongs in our lives. Is revenge worth it? Shakespeare poses this important question, and as usual, does not supply a succinct answer, but leaves us pondering the options.

Witness Shakespeare’s ultra-violent tragedy told in absurd nightmare-scape: an ensemble driven piece evoking horror through abstraction, surrealism and the body in space. A cautionary tale for our times pitting revenge and cruelty against resilience and tenderness.

Great performances particularly skilled leads. High energy and sparsely effective staging and sound . A must see for a little performed play. Reflective of current world politics.
