CROWS

CROWS

“There’s something out there, in the trees...”

A thread of chance. A whisper of ghosts. A mess of memory. Written by Robert Lewis (Scarabs, Beasts) and award-winning playwright Ryan Enniss (Drizzle Boy), and directed by Callum Bodman, Crows sees ten characters navigating their way through life while dealing the ghosts of their past. The characters are linked together by a thread of chance happenings that they encounter through their journey. Written in a unique style where each playwright writes a monologue, then passes it on to the other to extract more from the narrative in a literary tennis match, Crows delves into the complex layers of masculinity and anxiety, while exploring universal themes like loss, relationships, and the burdens of the past. By weaving together interconnected monologues, the play mirrors the fragmented and intertwined nature of our own lives. Audiences will find a mirror of their own struggles and joys in these complex characters. Crows balances absurd humour with gut-punch honesty and aims to challenge audiences while fostering empathy and connection.

Featuring Annaliese Cartwright, Jalen Ong, Ben Goss, Chloe McKeon, and designed by Georgia Mason, Crows is not just a play, it’s a provocation. It’s about making space for new ways of seeing, feeling, and understanding each other through theatre.

Crows had a public reading at La Mama in June 2024, and a further development and public showing at Next Wave, Brunswick Mechanics Institute, in December 2024, and an initial showing at Neurokin Arts Festival in June, 2025.

Persona Collective is committed to creating bold, contemporary works that both confront and inspire. Driven by urgent and resonant stories, the company draws on innovative training practices to craft theatre that is dynamic, challenging, and deeply engaging for audiences.

Sam

Interesting and imaginative, this play invites audience to come up with their own interpretations based on the combination of what's in the play and what lies in own lives past.

Raymond

An interesting performance.

Slightly disjointed narratives and lacking character modulation but earnest in delivery.
