The Shrouds

The Shrouds

From legendary director David Cronenberg comes The Shrouds, his most intimate and personal work to date starring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, and Guy Pearce. Set in a disturbingly calm near-future, the story follows Karsh (Cassel), a tech entrepreneur who has invented a radical new system called The Shrouds: software that enables grieving families to watch the physical deterioration of their loved ones via cameras installed in specially designed coffins.

Four years after losing his wife Becca (Kruger) to cancer, Karsh remains consumed by grief and entangled in a complicated relationship with her sister, Terry (also Kruger). When graves equipped with his burial technology are vandalized and the coffin camera feeds encrypted, his company faces ruin, and his last digital link to Becca vanishes. His search for answers uncovers a sinister conspiracy.

Written in the shadow of personal loss, The Shrouds is Cronenberg at his most haunting: a gripping meditation on grief, blending dread, intellect, and dark humor as it probes the blurred lines between body and data, life and what lingers after.

So promising but in the end just a jumbled mess. I was left wondering what was trying to be achieved. Fine actors but overall a disappointing movie.

Stephen

Cronenberg is an amazing film maker, so it's a pity this had such a limited release.

Katherine

Grieving a spouse. Grieving a marriage. Grieving a past relationship. This movie leaves you wondering whose story is being told and who or what is real. There is no neat, clean ending tying it up for the viewer.

Tony

A little hard to follow due to meshing too many genres into one film but overall entertaining.

Kawasho

nice movies. I enjoyed it.

Demon

Intriguing study of the effects and reactions to loss and grief. Left a touch bewildered as to who exactly possessed the truth and who had completely lost it.
