‘Almost Maine’ is a funny, and slightly absurdist romantic comedy. The play explores themes of love, loss, heartbreak, and the complexities of relationships. A mix of humour and heart.
Written by John Cariani, the play comprises a series of scenes, each featuring a different couple in a different stage of their relationship. And all take place during the same time frame, on the same cold, clear, winter night, in the fictional town of Almost, Maine when the northern lights are visible.
Cariani’s script packs wit, earns its laughs and, like love, will surprise you, as the characters find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised and hearts are broken. Do the bruises heal, and the hearts mend? Well, almost.
A heart-warming play that can restore our optimism and belief in love and life.
