Ghost Quartet
Antipodes Theatre Company is thrilled to make their Sydney debut with Dave Malloy’s Ghost Quartet – an intoxicating musical odyssey about love, death and whiskey.
A camera breaks and four friends conjure spirits (both spectral and alcoholic) as they unravel four interwoven narratives spanning seven centuries: a warped fairy tale about two sisters and a treehouse astronomer; a retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher; a purgatorial intermezzo about Scheherazade and the ghost of Thelonious Monk; and a contemporary fable about a subway murder.
Inspired by source material as diverse as Arabian Nights and The Twilight Zone, Ghost Quartet is about the stories we choose to pass on, the versions of ourselves we choose to inhabit, and the healing power of music.
Featuring a cast of singer-musicians that includes CAMERON BAJRAKTAREVIC-HAYWARD (Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812) DAVID BUTLER (Love That For You), HANY LEE (Hamilton) and WILLOW SIZER (Guys and Dolls). This production of GHOST QUARTET previously had sold out seasons at Meat Market Stables (2021) and Gasworks Arts Park (2019).
Runtime: 90 minutes, no interval
Recommended for audiences: 14+, parental discretion is advised.
Warnings: Coarse language and references to death, murder and childhood trauma. Contains flashing lights, theatrical haze and a 15-minute blackout sequence.

An unusual musical but never the less outstanding, although the narrative may be hard to follow for some, the voices were mesmerizing, would recommend to anyone who just enjoys a good night of music

Unique and interesting show

Today Connor and I watched a production called Ghost Quartet at Hayes Theatre. This show features just four actors, who are not only the performers but also the musicians and singers. WOW—these actors are insanely talented!
The show runs for 90 minutes without an interval, and they perform in the round, engaging directly with the audience. The experience was unlike anything we’ve seen before - strange yet absolutely captivating.
At times, it felt like we were simply watching a quartet of musicians play an eclectic mix of genres. But in between the music, there was a dark, eerie narrative unfolding, filled with unexpected twists and a sense of mystery.
The final 20 minutes (excluding the last five) were performed in total darkness. The performers sang and played in the pitch black, and it was nothing short of mesmerizing. With sight completely removed, every other sense seemed heightened, making the experience even more immersive.
For anyone who appreciates great music and extraordinary musicianship, this show is a must-see. If you're someone who enjoys shows that push boundaries and embrace the weird, you’ll love Ghost Quartet—it's dark, strange, and impressively executed.

Four of the most amazingly talented performers come together in this captivating show. Great direction & staging, great sound and lighting and a mix of melodies that showcases the casts huge variety of talents. All in a delightfully cosy venue where every seat has a great view. I loved, loved, loved this show!
