Britain’s second longest running play after The Mousetrap, The Woman in Black tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black. He engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul.
It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.

John waters and Daniel MacPherson delivered skilled performances and added to a fantastic evening. The Opening night performance was made glamorous by the appearance of the likes of Jamie Drurie and others. It was wonderful to see patrons attending in ball gowns despite the gloomy weather. The theatre had an electric atmosphere about it. A memorable evening!

Excellent acting
I found the play slow in its development.
I found it too somber but well acted. Didn’t live up to the hype that it was really scary but others really lived it as it got a standing ovation.
It started off slow and built up to the climax. At first, I struggled with the multiple characters played by John Waters but as play went on it became quite obvious who he was playing. I would highly recommend
We enjoyed the play, but would not call it 'terrifying'. Waters and Macpherson do a wonderful job of keeping the pace of the play with Waters skillfully undergoing a number of character changes with the use of accent and clothing swaps. The use of sound and lighting was excellent in the way that it added meaning for the audience. The dog, Spider, was handled in a novel and engaging way.
It was interesting to see a ghost story performed with humour. Thanks for allowing members to see seasoned actors at work.

After the first recorded scream our party was posed on their of their seats, poised for the suspense to follow. Whilst the acting was undoubtedly well executed, the play could be best described as a comedy noir and we were puzzled as to the horror element was. Overall a pleasant night out.
