KING LEAR

KING LEAR

Directed by Brant Eustice

Season: 16 - 25 August 2024

Reimagined in a post-apocalyptic setting, this Shakespearean epic unfolds amidst the madness of a world in ruins.

As Lear descends into insanity and his daughters' ambitions spiral out of control, Adelaide’s finest capture the desperation and instability of characters grappling with power, betrayal, excessive pride, and the collapse of civilisation.

Director Brant Eustice says, “There is enormous joy to be found in Shakespeare’s universal themes and a brilliance in his writing which not only allows, but also encourages theatregoers to continue exploring the depth, complexity and beauty of his stories in new and original styles. Due to a global calamity, civilisation as we view it has collapsed and has returned to the ways of a distant past. We find ourselves in a world which is slowly trying to rebuild itself.”

Didn't like the modern day presentation

Fidella

Even from the front row it was hard to follow the dialogue : there's not much about Shakespeare's dramas that doesn't need understanding of who is in what relation to the other characters. Players full of enthusiasm.
