Live at Toorak: Midnight in Paris, Konstantin Shamray

Live at Toorak: Midnight in Paris, Konstantin Shamray

"Shamray’s recital – featuring works by Debussy, Rachmaninov, Ravel and Scriabin – was a thrilling and profound experience of programming and performance." Limelight Magazine

The brilliant Konstantin Shamray will sweep you off your feet with the music of Paris by moonlight from Debussy's suite Bergamasque (Claire de Lune) to Chopin's romantic works, culminating with Ravel's collosal La Valse, no emotion unexplored, no heart unmoved. Join us for an unforgettable evening in Paris.

Set in the stuinning Toorak synagogue with its golden acoustics and illuminated byzantine dome. this will be a night to remember!
Paris by moonlight, the black siene, reflections on the water dance, bridges with young lovers kissing, cigarettes with smoke in the distance, cats frolicking about, sweet pollution permeates the musk sandalwood air and an elderly couple reflected by the moonlight sway slowly in a waltz.

NOTE: You will need to print or display the ON THE HOUSE voucher to the venue staff on the night of the show to get access.

Konstantin Shamray is a great pianist and a wonderful (and super humble) promoter of and guide to the many-layered world of classical music and culture. An evening with Konstantin Shamrock is truly an evening to remember. Thank you, Konstantin!

superb - performance, programme, setting. words don't do it justice

David

Good recital, and Shamray was an entertaining speaker.

Unfortunately, some members of the audience must have been raised by wolves - talking, opening lolly wrappers noisily and taking photos with the flash turned on. One man's phone rang for a solid 20 seconds before he worked out how to turn it off (during Clair de lune, no less - sadly it marred what should have been a highlight).

The synagogue provided an elegant setting and good acoustics. The seats are very squeaky and a poor match for quiet musical performances, but I understand it wouldn't be trivial to remedy this.

The MC was enthusiastic but didn't exactly add anything - the pianist was a better and more interesting speaker.
