Shayda
Premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and winning the Audience Award, SHAYDA, starring Iranian French actress Zar Amir Ebrahimi (Holy Spider) alongside newcomer Selina Zahednia, will release in Australian cinemas on October 5.
The film follows SHAYDA, a brave Iranian mother who finds refuge in an Australian women’s shelter with her six-year-old daughter, Mona. Over the Persian New Year, they take solace in Nowruz rituals and new beginnings, but when her estranged husband re-enters their lives, Shayda’s path to freedom is jeopardised.
