Gabriella Smart - Piano recital

Gabriella Smart - Piano recital

On Sunday 22 April, pianist, curator-producer and artistic director of Soundstream New Music, Gabriella Smart, will present ‘Of Broken Trees and Elephant Ivories’ — a concert of contemporary works for solo piano and electronics as part of Monash Universities MLIVE program of events.

For one evening only Smart will perform two works composed by Cat Hope and Erkki Veltheim that explore the little known stories surrounding Percy Grainger’s childhood piano (Hope) and the arduous journey of the first piano to arrive in Alice Springs by camel (Veltheim).

Now in its third year, MLIVE’s Wood, Metal & Vibrating Air piano recital program is a who’s who of Australia’s most eminent and award-winning Australian pianists. Limited to an audience of just 150, audience and artist are seated on the stage together in an up-close and intimate performance.

Don't understand the performance. It is not what I expected

My account was suspended during that time so I was unable to attend this event.

I fully appreciate what she was trying to achieve but as a pianist, this performance was an insult to my and everyone else’s artistic intelligence. There was absolutely no skill or technique in what she presented to the shocked audience. I must add however, it was good trance sounds, I definitely caught up on a few winks!!

I am being generous. There were about 40 in the audience and when I left at 6.35 PM there were 20. It is the first time ever that I walked out on a live performance.
